Caring for your gold and jewelry at home

Simple habits for cleaning, wearing and storing your pieces so they stay beautiful for years.
Good care keeps jewelry bright and protects the stones. These habits are easy to follow.
Put jewelry on last: apply perfume, lotion and hair spray first, then wear your pieces.
Take it off at the right time: remove jewelry before swimming, cleaning with chemicals, exercising or sleeping. Chlorine and strong cleaners can damage gold alloys and stones.
Clean it gently: soak the piece for a few minutes in warm water with a little mild soap, brush softly with a soft brush, rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals.
Store pieces separately: keep each piece in a soft pouch or a lined box so that pieces do not scratch each other, and close chains to stop them tangling.
Have it checked: from time to time ask a jeweler to check the claws that hold stones and the clasps of chains and bracelets.
Note that gold is a soft metal and fine scratches appear over time with normal wear.
